YWFT Basel is a heavy sans-serif font that began as a revival of the metal type Spartan Black, an American copy of Futura developed in 1936. The final release of YWFT Basel ultimately took on a character of its own, resulting in one of more unique type designs at YWFT. The upright strokes are flared slightly, as in Optima; at smaller sizes this feature is almost undetectable, at larger there is a unique optical play between the letter spaces. YWFT Basel works best when used for display, identities, and headline copy.
