Designed by Don Handel in the mid-1960s, and used in the 1973 United Airlines logo developed by Saul Bass, Handel Gothic was an instant success when released to the graphic design community. The fonts were originally distributed in film format by PhotoStar, now brought back to life by URW++.
It was a prominent font in the 1980s due to its futuristic design and even today is used to signify the future.
Popular uses: Halo 3, Disney/Pixar’s film Wall-E, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine titles, Star Trek: Voyager titles, Knight Rider (1982 TV series), FOX Sports graphics between 1998 and 2002, PHP logo and Volvo 740 (84-91).
